After losing their appeal with the Fifth Circuit Court, Nacho Ramos and Jose Compean’s only hope for freedom is in President Bush, who up until this point, has turned a deaf ear to pleas from citizens and members of Congress urging him to set these agents free. As a Capitol contact told Grassfire, “He’s likely already preparing his list of pardons for his political ‘friends’. Adding Ramos and Compean to the list will only happen because of intense pressure from grassroots Americans.” There you have it. We need to mount up and storm the White House demanding the President right this wrong. That is why Grassfire is heading to Washington D.C., in early September, and with us will be half a million petitions that will be delivered to the White House! Please take a moment right now to sign our petition so that I can represent you in D.C. They Stood for You. Will you stand for them? Just yesterday, I was on the phone talking with a friend of Grassfire when the conversation turned to what we were doing. When I mentioned agents Ramos and Compean, my friend asked, ...

Pence. “Speaker Pelosi: Get Back To Work Now!” Congressman Pence told me that Congress simply should not go on a five-week paid vacation while Americans struggle with high gas prices and our nation remains in the grip of foreign oil. So he and about 50 Republicans are standing strong, making speeches from the House floor and calling their colleagues back. CSPAN will not even cover these speeches! The mainstream media are calling it a “stunt.” But this is the kind of leadership we have been desperately needing -- leadership that stands up to the political and media elites! That’s right. Taxpayers forked over $200,000 worth of federal transportation dollars to commemorate the birthplace of President James Monroe, and it remains closed! Before skipping town last week for a five week paid vacation--compliments of U.S. taxpayers, the House passed a bill containing more than 500 earmarks--like the one above, and then no doubt patted each other on the back for a job well done. This kind of arrogant, unaccountability from our supposed leadership brings my blood to a boil. But nothing got me as worked up as reading about the “Parking Garage to Nowhere.” According to investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson, Rep.
Court rejects Ramos/Compean appeal (breaking)

We have just learned that the 5th Circuit has rejected the Ramos/Compean appeal and has sided with Johnny Sutton. This is an outrage. Please see below. --Steve After months and months of delays, today the 5th Circuit rejected the most important aspects of the appeal by imprisoned border patrol agents Ramos and Compean. That means the court has sided with Johnny Sutton -- and Ramos and Compean now face at least 10 years in prison for attempting to apprehend a convicted illegal alien drug smuggler! We have posted a link to the court's ruling in which the judges conclude that the trial "was conducted fairly and without reversible error" -- even though the court admitted to "exclusion of evidence" (i.e. suppression of evidence) regarding the drug smuggler! Go here to read it for yourself (all 45 pages). Grassroots Action -- Our Final Hope... It is my understanding that agents Ramos and Compean will continue their appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court -- but that is a long and difficult fight just to get your case heard. Their best hope is a grassroots uprising by citizens like you demanding that Congress and/or the President take immediate action. That is why I ...

We have just received word that the Senate will vote TODAY on whether to abandon the debate on seeking solutions for America’s current energy crisis, in favor of Harry Reid’s omnibus spending bill! There will be a Senate vote at 4 p.m. today to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to S. 3297—Reid’s massive $11.3 billion earmarking package that would focus on such issues as banning the interstate sale of primates, studying shipwrecks, and building a new greenhouse in Maryland rather than responsibly addressing America’s energy crisis! This should be viewed as a slap in the face to all Americans, and I’m urging you to take immediate action right now. Action Item--Call your Senators Call your two Senators right now and urge them to vote against cloture and the Reid omnibus spending bill. Go here for contact information. Please also call Harry Reid’s office as well, and express outrage that he would even consider moving from seeking solutions to America’s energy crisis to his massive omnibus spending bill. His number is: 202-224-3542 Alert Your Friends After making your calls, please forward this important update to 20-30 friends urging them to call and sign our national petition opposing ...

Tell Congress: No vacation until drilling ban lifted

Please see below. --Steve Gas prices continue to soar yet Congress does nothing! Just the other day President Bush issued an executive order to expand offshore drilling but this do-nothing Congress hasn’t taken action to lift the legislative ban that prohibits more drilling. I believe the first vital step to energy independence is for Congress to get out of the way and allow more domestic drilling! We must show OPEC we mean business! That’s why Grassfire just launched an Emergency Petition calling on Congress to lift the ban on offshore drilling. What’s more, our petition demands that they lift the ban BEFORE they break for their month-long summer recess. If you agree that Congress should NOT go on an extended vacation (over four weeks!) UNTIL they lift the ban on offshore drilling, please go here to sign.
This Sunday and Monday, Barack Obama and John McCain will continue to cater to the fringe elements of the pro-amnesty movement with speeches before the National Council of La Raza. As Michelle Malkin pointed out in a column today, La Raza (which literally means “The Race”) is a “radical ethnic nationalist outfit that abuses your tax dollars and milks PC politics to undermine our sovereignty.” Go here to access Malkin’s column and find out more. Citizen Letter of Protest Grassfire is launching an Emergency Citizen Letter protesting these appearances by McCain and Obama. We have arranged with our friends at the San Diego Minutemen to present the Citizen Letters at rallies this Sunday and Monday in San Diego. But we simply cannot show up with a few thousand letters. I feel we must have 50,000 Citizen Letters to deliver -- and I need them by FRIDAY NOON. Please go here to join me in signing the Citizen Letter. Then, forward this message to all your key contacts and ask them to join you. But Independence Day hasn’t come for Border Agents Nacho Ramos and Jose Compean, who are both still awaiting the decision on their appeals heard back in December. I decided to write this update after one of our Grassfire staffers told me that she’s been keeping the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit webpage open on her computer since Ramos and Compean’s December appeal. “I check it every day,” she said. “It’s my little way of remembering them, and keeping them in my thoughts.” I like that idea so much I’m encouraging everyone on our team to do the same. Click here! I’m also asking everyone to send these two men an inspirational letter, poem, or card--just letting them know that you are thinking of them and their families. Together, let’s make certain July 4, isn’t just day 535 for Ramos and Compean. While it is another day without family and freedom, we can make it a day filled with friends! At the end of this year all obligations for DHS to build the fence ends, leaving our borders open for invasion. Go here to access that article. It is clear that radical environmentalism must take much of the blame for our current gas crisis. Consider this: ++No nuclear plants in the past 20 years. Why? Environmentalists will not allow it. ++Our domestic oil production has dropped by 22 percent since the last energy crisis. Again, radical environmentalism is working against any new drilling. ++ Did you know that Rocky Mountain shale oil holds more than six times as much potential oil reserves as Saudi Arabia -- enough to fuel America well into the next century? Environmentalists don’t want this resource to be touched. And the bogus threat that CO2 is destroying the planet will make it virtually impossible for America to expand our own capacity.
